CEBU, Philippines - Inmates of the Mandaue City Jail, numbering 180, availed of an on-site registration conducted by the Commission on Elections.
Aside from these first time registrants, 10 other inmates transferred their registration in Mandaue City while 25 applied for the reactivation of their registration.
City warden Gil Inopia Jr. said the city jail has 889 inmates in all and most of them are registered voters in the city.
Yesterday’s registration was done in anticipation of the 2013 midterm elections.
Jacklyn Reuyan, the election assistant of Comelec in Mandaue City, said the inmates that registered have not been sentenced yet.
Salvador Alqueza, a staff of the Comelec, said registration will resume in August.
He said Comelec will be busy next month for the registration of voters at the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
