Half of Holy Week 2025 Filipino travelers flying solo — study

MANILA, Philippines — More than half of Filipino travelers that booked flights for Holy Week this year are solo travelers, according to data collected by low-cost airline AirAsia's new online travel agent AirAsia MOVE.
The online travel agent extracted data last April 10 to see what travel trends emerged among Filipinos for Semana Santa 2025.
MOVE found that the busiest departure day is April 16 (right before the regular work holidays) and the highest volume of return flights is on Easter Sunday, April 20.
Of those travelers, 53% booked solo flights. That is more than thrice the flights booked by couples and families (both 17%) while smaller groups rallied under 10%.
A huge majority of travelers, 62%, were under the age of 40. MOVE did note that 13% of travelers were aged 70 to 79, either as companions on family trips or going on retirement vacations.

Most travelers opted for comfort as luxury hotels and mid-range accommodations, 45% and 43% respectively, were the most popular bookings, leaving budget stays at a distant 12%.
Manila and Cebu were the leading local destinations followed by Iloilo, Caticalan (Boracay), and Tacloban. All but Iloilo were also the most searched destinations overall, with Hong Kong as the fifth.
The leading international destinations, however, were Taiwan capital Taipei, Manila, Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, Japanese aiport Narita, and Thai capital Bangkok.
MOVE noted that Manila appearing on the international destinations pointed to Filipinos abroad flying home to spend Holy Week with loved ones.
