MANILA, Philippines -Elizabeth “Beth†Victoria, president of JAV Talent Unlimited Foundation Inc., has the uncanny ability of finding diamonds in the rough. Her latest project, JAV’s Painting Contest, just discovered many talented young painters who probably would have gone unnoticed. An exhibit of all the winning pieces is ongoing until March 27 at the NCCA Gallery, 633 Gen. Luna St., Intramuros.
The goal of the foundation is to help talented young Filipinos succeed and attain their goals. “Many young people today need direction,†says Beth. “They need recogntion that they are good at something. By providing contests, we are giving the avenue for kids to shine. Win or lose, it’s good for them. We are teaching them to be competitive, which is the reality of this world.â€
Beth is also the publisher and managing director of Bravo Filipino magazine. She says that both of her endeavors work hand in hand. When she finds talented individuals, she recognizes them.
“I like to be positive,†she says. “Bravo Filipino magazine celebrates what’s good in our country and culture. We feature people, things, places, and actions that need to be acknowledged. As a matter of fact, two of the magazine’s past covers were winners of the foundation’s prior contests.â€
This businesswoman and philantropist has a big heart and a soft spot for kids. Having studied Education in college, she likes to teach children and young adults how to succeed. But she also expects a lot from them. “You can’t be successful by being mediocre. You need to listen to your teachers and mentors, learn from your mistakes, always be responsible, and work your hardest. If you think you are already working hard, double or triple that effort,†she advises.
