It is estimated that more than 170,000 Filipinos are suffering from Psoriasis, a chronic skin condition that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, or red patches of skin. The patches range in size from small to large and typically occur on the knees, elbows, scalp, hands, feet, or lower back. Psoriasis is most common in adults, although children and teens may be affected.
The AHMC Psoriasis Club is the first of its kind to be established in a private hospital and is part of Asian Hospital's continuing advocacy to assist those bothered by psoriasis. Furthermore, the AHMC Psoriasis Club is a support group that aims to bring together people who are troubled by Psoriasis. The Club holds meetings and activities geared to remind patients that they can cope with the disease and that positive changes are possible with emotional support and adequate treatment.
The AHMC Psoriasis Club helps patients by using the latest medical breakthroughs and letting them confer with doctors regarding treatment plans. The Club provides contact with different resource persons like doctors, psychologists, religious and lay leaders and pharmacists, who can help patients with the different challenges they need to face. Asian Hospital and Medical Center is well equipped to provide phototherapy services thru its Davlin Phototherapy machine which emits ultraviolet light A & B in narrow band spectrum, a mainstay treatment for this condition.
Most importantly, patients will meet other people who have overcome the most difficult stages of Psoriasis. These people are willing to share their experiences and join those currently suffering from Psoriasis in a journey to hope and recovery.
