MANILA, Philippines - CEMEX, the cement expert, has been included in this year’s “Change the World” list of Fortune magazine. CEMEX ranked 16th out of 50 dynamic companies in the world that have made a sizeable impact on major social and environmental issues.

The recognition is for CEMEX’s Patrimonio Hoy program, a market-based housing program for low-income families in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
This recognition is proof positive of CEMEX’s efforts to be at the forefront of innovation, not only in terms of enhancing the quality of its products but also in introducing improvements in society and in the industry where it operates.

During the 3rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) and Related Meetings held in Cebu City recently, CEMEX business development director Arturo Rodriguez shared Patrimonio Hoy as one of CEMEX’s excellent examples of “Inclusive Business.” Rodriguez talked about the company’s efforts in providing integral solutions to the construction requirements of low-income families worldwide.

In the same forum, Rodriguez also discussed the value of the cement company’s Patrimonio Hoy program, a market-based solution to the housing needs of families in urban marginalized areas in Latin America. Since its inception in 1998, the program has since been credited with changing the way residential solutions are now being done globally. One of the program’s goals is to improve the quality of life of families by helping them build decent homes.

“With Patrimonio Hoy, CEMEX endeavors to provide families with the financial and technical assistance that best suits their needs, in a timely manner. We combine the global presence of our company with the power of microcredit. We always ensure that we assist them in building their homes faster with very good building materials,” Rodriguez reiterated.

The Public-Private Dialogue is aligned with APEC’s theme of “Building Inclusive Economies for Building a Better World.” It is a best practice platform where Inclusive Business models from companies that belong to the manufacturing and agribusiness are presented.

Joining Rodriguez in the CEMEX delegation to the APEC SOM3 Meeting were public affairs director Chito Maniago and corporate communications manager Erlinda Lizardo. Key officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Office of the President were present during the forum, together with panel speakers were from Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Economic Forum (WEF), Kennemer Foods International, Dow Chemicals and Indonesia Business Council.
