Artful activities for Philippines-Japan Friendship Month
MANILA, Philippines - Celebrating 58 years of longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), along with different partner organizations, are co-presenting a variety of fun and exciting cultural festivities.
The Philippines-Japan Friendship Month is held during the month of July to commemorate the designation of July 23 as Philippines-Japan Friendship Day in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2006.
Aside from the Eiga Sai 2014 Japanese Film Festival at Shangri-La Mall, Abreeza Ayala Mall in Davao, and Ayala Center in Cebu, as well as the J-Pop Anime Sing & Dance Contest on July 19, 1 to 5 p.m., at Mall of Asia, there will be a traveling exhibit on view until July 14 at the GT Toyota Hall of Wisdom, Asian Center in UP Diliman titled “How Did Architects Respond Immediately After 3/11?”
In a collaborative effort, JFM and PETA Theater Center will also present back-to-back performances of Filipino and Japanese performers on July 26, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., at the PETA Theater.
PETA’s own performers will present Strong Boy, Deaf Boy, and a Girl in an Abaya, a story of struggle and hope, featuring the lives of children survivors of typhoon Yolanda. Also taking center stage, the creative Japanese performing group Dora Company will present Ayanasu, an improvised non-verbal performance.
