Danny Dolor presents Marian exhibit, patriotic concert and history quiz in Batangas

MANILA, Philippines - Art patron Danny Dolor recently presented an interesting mix of religious, historical and cultural events to mark different occasions.

“Birhen Maria,” a Jubilee Marian exhibit was from Sept. 7 to 17 in celebration of the 8th National Pilrimage to Lipa; the National Day of Prayer for World Peace and the 2nd Asia Oceania Mariological Conference organized by the Archdiocese of Lipa.

The Marian exhibit held at the Bishop Alfredo Ma. Obviar Center, featured a number of religious icons of Mary the Mother of God from different collectors from Batangas, Bulacan and Laguna.

Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, Auxiliary Bishop Salvador Quizon and Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista of the Diocese of Boac opened the exhibit, with Marian visionary Teresing Castillo and the foreign delegates to the Mariological Conference from Vietnam, Australia, Papua, New Guinea, etc. as special guests.

In celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the San Sebastian Library of Lipa headed by Danny Dolor, in association with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, presented its 20th Annual History Quiz at the Soledad Pavilion in Antipolo del Norte, Lipa City.

The History Quiz, started in 1990, is participated in by students from private and national high schools from the province of Batangas. This year students from 92 schools, together with their teachers and mentors, joined the contest which was preceded by a mini concert of patriotic songs. The concert featured tenor Lemuel dela Cruz and soprano Liza Cabahug who sang Canto Patriotico de Maria Clara, the lyrics of which were written by Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

National Historical Commission’s executive director Ludovico Badoy, were represented by Gina Batuhan, supervisor historic site, National Historical Commission; Pablito Alay, education program supervisor, Araling Panlipunan, Department of Education; and Dr. Edith Malihan, supervisor, Araling Panlipunan, Department of Education.

The winners are: for first prize, Patricia A. Eleponga of Lucsuhin National High School, Calatagan; second prize, Raymark D. Peña, The Mabini Academy, Lipa; and third prize, Lexlie A. Uyquiengco, Maabud National High School, San Nicolas. Consolation prizes are Mark Anthony Abrenica, Bauan Technical High School, Bauan; Clyde Bienson P. Callingansan, Dacanlao Gregorio Agoncillo National High School, Calaca; and Angel Mary M. Deoferio, Maabud National High School, San Nicolas.

The History Quiz, is presented every third week of July in the province of Batangas to honor Apolinario Mabini, whom Danny Dolor considers the greatest Batangueño ever, as well as, to instill among the Youth of Batangas the value of history in national consciousness.
