LPA in PAR has 'medium' chance of becoming storm

MANILA, Philippines — A new low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a "medium" chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau announced Wednesday afternoon, June 11.
In an advisory based on its monitoring around 2 p.m., PAGASA said the LPA was last spotted some 600 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora.
The LPA has a low chance of developing into a storm within the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said the LPA currently has no direct effect on any part of the country and could possibly move northwest.
If the LPA moves closer to Luzon, it is "not ruled out" that its extension or track could affect the country, Torres said.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Wutip was last spotted west of the Philippines and outside PAR as of 2 p.m., the state weather bureau added. It was tracked around 850 kilometers west of northern Luzon.
Several parts of the country experienced a rainy Wednesday due to the southwest monsoon (habagat), intensified by the tropical depression that turned into tropical storm Wutip.
