MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos and his office shouldered the hospital bills of the late National Artist Nora Aunor, an official of the government’s lead communication arm confirmed yesterday.

Presidential Communications Office Senior Undersecretary Analisa Puod said that aside from the hospital costs, Marcos had also paid for other expenses using his personal money.

“PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office) did not shoulder (the costs). The OP (Office of the President) and the President did,” Puod said in a text message.

“Aside from what she (Aunor) got as National Artist, the couple also provided personal money. Nora Aunor was in a private hospital. The bill was huge and could not be covered... As per PCSO, they did not pay anymore because (the bills) were already shouldered by PBBM (President Bongbong Marcos) and FLAM (First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos),” she added.

Known as the “Superstar” of Philippine cinema, Aunor died of acute respiratory failure on April 16 at the age of 71.
