MANILA, Philippines — Boracay Island— which reopened its doors to local and foreign tourists last year after a six-month rehabilitation—remains one of the top beaches in Asia, international travel planning and booking site TripAdvisor said.

In its 2019 Travelers’ Choice Award, TripAdvisor ranked Boracay as the 9th best beach in Asia out of 25 destinations, citing the island’s “calm, warm waters, gently sloping sand.”

In 2018, Boracay was at 2nd spot out of 25 Asian beaches in TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award.

Last October 26, Boracay delighted tourists with a rehabilitated beachfront that looked like what people fell in love with 30 years ago.

The reopening marked the end of the first phase of the island’s two-year rehabilitation program after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a total shutdown of the tourist attraction that he previously described as a “cesspool.”

Aside from Boracay, two other Philippine beaches located in El Nido made it to TripAdvisor’s 2019 list, namely: Nacpan Beach (13th place) and Las Cabanas Beach (22nd place).

Radhanagar Beach took this year’s top spot followed by Kelingking Beach and Nai Harn Beach.
