MANILA, Philippines - Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. filed yesterday his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for a third and final term as representative of the fourth district of Quezon City.
“I’m confident that I can continue my work for socio-economic reforms, particularly legislation that expands businesses and investments, make our economy strong and less vulnerable to external shocks while making sure our people are not exploited while having quality and stable jobs,” Belmonte said.
The Speaker filed his COC at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila at around 3:30 p.m.
Belmonte is expected to be challenged by his friend Quezon City Councilor Jesus Suntay.
Belmonte said since his assumption as Speaker in 2010 and his reelection to the post in 2013, the House of Representatives has managed to pass the country’s national budget on time every year.
He also said the House managed to obtain positive ratings from the public since 2010 owing to the slew of various landmark and reform measures passed by the chamber.
Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales II last week said Belmonte has a good relationship with leaders of various political parties.
