MANILA, Philippines - A 21-man medical team flew to Haiti late last night on Philippine Airlines flight PR 104 to help in humanitarian efforts in the quake-hit nation.
Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral said she expects the medical team to arrive in Port-au-Prince by this afternoon.
She said the team is comprised of three surgeons, two orthopedists, two anesthesiologists, five nurses, three epidemiologists, two safety engineers, an internist, a pediatrician, a psychologist and a social worker.
Dr. Emmanuel Bueno, head of emergency services of the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City, will lead the team.
Cabral said the team will stay in Haiti until Feb. 11 but did not discount the possibility that they could stay longer.
“It depends on the need. If they are needed longer than two weeks, they will stay,” she said in an interview. – Rudy Santos
