‘Panalo pa rin ako’: Luis Manzano thanks supporters after Batangas election loss

MANILA, Philippines —Celebrity couple Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola showed their unwavering support for each other as they exchanged encouraging words and thanked those who backed Luis in his first bid for Batangas vice governor, a race where he ran alongside his mother, actress and veteran politician Vilma Santos.
Luis lost to another veteran politician, Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas.
“Hindi man tayo pinalad sa resulta ng halalan, panalo pa rin ako, dahil sa inyo," Luis said in an Instagram post on Wednesday, May 14.
“Sa bawat ngiti, kwento, at yakap na ibinahagi n’yo sa kampanya, mas naramdaman ko ang tibok ng puso ng Batangas. Mas napalapit ako sa inyo. Mas nakilala ko kayo, at iyon ay habang buhay kong babaunin,” he added.
The actor-host vowed that it would not be the last that people would hear from him.
It is a different story for his mother, Vilma, who returns as Batangas governor. Vilma served various posts in the province, from mayor, congressman, to governor. His younger brother, Ryan Christian Recto, on the other hand, has been elected the representative of Batangas’ Sixth District.
Luis’ wife, Jessy, meanwhile, said that she is proud of her husband’s achievement despite the loss.
“Thank you for fighting and giving it your all… Proud pa rin kami sa’yo dahil sa pagkakataong ito, mas nakilala ka ng mga Batangueno. Napatunayan mo na kaya mo pa ring lumaban at makakamit ng magagandang numbers kahit first timer ka,” Jessy wrote in her Instagram story.
