MANILA, Philippines - JM de Guzman is not only good in acting but also in singing and songwriting.
JM reveals that he is set to release his self-titled album under Ivory Records.
“It’s a 12-track album, 10 covers and two of which I personally wrote,” he shares. “People can expect to hear chill-type of songs here.”
JM clarifies though that despite him venturing into the music industry, his first love is still acting.
Considering that he is a newcomer, JM has earned the respect of his peers and viewers for his Gabriel portrayal on Mula sa Puso.
“Given more challenging roles, JM is one of the important actors of his time,” director Wenn Deramas said.
Lauren Young, who plays JM’s love interest Via, adds, “He’s a really good actor. He’s very professional and versatile. He can shift from his jolly character as Gabriel to a serious one which is hard to do. He really gives justice to his role.”
JM remains humble yet thankful for the appreciation being given to him.
“I’m very overwhelmed with these compliments of course but I see to it that will remain in focus. Every taping, the scenes get harder and harder and I give my all to prepare for what the role requires me to do. I really take Gabriel to life,” JM says.
When asked if this is how he foresees his career in showbiz, he replies, “Yes. When I entered showbiz, I know where I stand and my goals as an actor. I should be focused on my character. Fame is part and parcel of being a TV personality but at the end of the day, an actor thinks on how to touch people’s lives with the role he plays.”
As early as six years old, JM already started doing commercials and ventured into acting as he became part of the popular gag show Ang TV. He stopped for a while to focus on his studies but when he stepped on the college level, he chose to take Theater Arts in the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
He returned to TV via Precious Hearts Romances (PHR) presents Midnight Phantom that was immediately followed by PHR presents Alyna, Martha Cecilia’s Kristine and now, Mula sa Puso.
JM will also be seen this month opposite Eugene Domingo in Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank, an official entry to the 2011 Cinemalaya directed by Chris Martinez.
Keep watching JM as Gabriel in Mula sa Puso, weekdays after Marry Me Mary on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.
