CEBU - Up to 60 teams are expected to show up and compete in the 1st Growee 3-on-3 12-under basketball tournament today at the old Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J) Jesuits gym along Gen. Maxilom Avenue, this city.
Some of the participants come from SHS-J, University of San Carlos (USC) South and North campuses, Don Bosco, PAREF-Springdale, Bright Academy and St. Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS) of Lapu-Lapu City.
Those who wanted to join the competition have until morning today to register. The event is aimed at creating mental and physical awareness to the kids the Growee way.
Games will be played simultaneously in six courts with an alloted running time of 10 minutes.
Tournament director Rey Cañete said the cut-off year for the qualified entries is those born in 1996 even as the ogranizers from Growee also urged the concerned coaches to follow the age requirements of the players to avoid misunderstanding.
According to Growee 3-on-3 event organizer Darren Evangelista, a former varsity cager of Mapua Institute of Technology, Growee will not only enhance the talent and capability of the young hoopsters, but also develop and strengthen their muscles.
The champion will receive P4,000, while the second to fourth finishers will pocket P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively.
The other Growee officials expected to grace the affair are Christian Paz, Marner Jimenez, and Ryan Diaz. (GGM) (THE FREEMAN)
