Cebuano fight fans will once again be treated to one solid night of action-packed entertainment as Visayas fighters defend their fort against the invading Mindanao warriors in the fourth sequel of Ground & Pound Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Kickboxing show billed as “Shockwave” on December 8 at the Cebu Coliseum.
“Definitely ‘Shockwave’ will be more exciting than the past three installment of Ground & Pound,” said event organizer and Yaw-Yan Cebu ArDigma Martial Arts Federation Inc. founder Benigno “Master Ekin” R. Caniga, Jr. in a press conference the other night at the Yaw-Yan Cebu headquarters.
“We have assembled Class A fighters to give the spectators a very entertaining action. Our top bets in the Visayas will go up against the best in Mindanao. Though we’re the host, we can’t underestimate the fighters from Mindanao because they will surely give their all-out best to beat a Yaw-Yan fighter. It’s something special for them, some sort of a bragging rights,” added Caniga.
The main attraction of the Visayas-Mindanao showdown pits Ryan “The Real Deal” Solana of Lapu-Lapu City’s Yaw-Yan Musang against the undefeated Alcer “D Master of Disaster” Lozada of Butuan City’s Mindanao Top Team in a three-rounder Mixed Martial Arts bout under the 70-kilogram division.
“I can say that Solana is a complete fighter. He’s very exciting. He is fast and has power. It’s going to be a great fight,” assured Yaw-Yan Musang instructor Richard Tan. Also to watch out for is Engie “The Destroyer” Piloto, the pride of Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu, who will take on Leo “Thunder” Filisan of CDO’s Mindanao Unified Martial Arts.
In the other MMA matches, Maxlito “Hyper Eagle” Yong of Yaw-Yan Musang tangles with Eugene “The Brawler” Yunque of Bacolod Fight Club, Cesar “Alamid” Yap tackles Erwin “The Bomber Man” Neri of CDO’s FKR Philippines, and Elmer “D Hammer” Jandayan of Bohol Sagravate Pit Fighting Society mixes it up with Butuan’s Alan “D Game Plan” Atup.
The rest of the bouts feature Jovito “Young Hercules” Abellana of Calma Stable versus Charlie Belle “The Steelman” Castro, Vicvic “The Jet” Gesta against Steve “The Wild” Sevilleno, Eric “Baki” Areglado of LLC’s C-Mac Mix opposite Greg “Anaconda” Gesta, Dondon Gesta of C-Mac Kickboxing Club against Randy “The Grappler” Morres, and Raffy “The Hawk” Tuñacao of Soma KC versus Steven “The Muma Boy” Lagbas.
Verbal war, on the other hand, broke out in kickboxing event with Nicanor “The Energizer” Leonardo of Talisay City’s Black Scorpion KC telling his opponent Leo “The Golden Boy” Gearlan of Yaw-Yan Musang during the presscon, “Matira ang matibay (Only the strong survives).”
In the other kickboxing rumble, James “Bisayas” Dabon of Yaw-Yaw Ardigma Cebu battles Freddierick “Johovah Nissi” Amparado, Argel “The Phantom” Oppus of Mandaue’s Arcomjukai KC faces Dexter “Buakaw” Melon of Dumaguete Muay Thai, and Jimuel “The Conqueror” Naigie of Arcomjukai clashes with Marjun “The Muma Warrior” Poriento.
To further spice up the show, a special attraction in the women’s category has been lined up featuring the grudge rematch between Nove “The Heartbreaker” Dinolan of Mandaue’s ATC Kickboxing Club and Alchiene “Lady” Yosores of CDO’s Mindanao Unified Martial Arts.
“I really want to exact vengeance at her,” said Dinolan, who lost by submission to Yosores during their first encounter in July last year.
