CEBU, Philippines - A 53-year-old British national was found dead inside his rented apartment in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City on Saturday evening.
The discovery of British national Mervyn Mould’s lifeless body stemmed from the foul smell coming from his room at Jacel’s Apartment in Suico Compound along Rizal St. at about 10:00 in the evening.
However, upon initial investigation, the police disclosed there was no foul play in Mould’s death.
SPO2 Ernesto Valle, desk officer of the Basak Police Station, explained there was no sign of struggle and all valuables were intact.
Valle said that according to Mary Rose Bacus, 27, of Barangay Labogon, Tuesday evening was the last time she was asked by Mould to buy groceries.
The next few days he was no longer seen until last Saturday when they smelled the foul odor coming from Mould’s room which prompted them to call for police assistance.
“Gipaadto sa tag-iya ang victim kay lain na man kuno ang baho sa palibot, didto ilang nahibaw-an nga patay na diay,” Valle said.
According to Ernie Jacel, son of the owner, Valle said Mould rented the room last January 16. He was seldom seen and was reportedly drinking liquor constantly as there were several liquor bottles inside his room.
Police took the body to the Rolling Hills Funeral Homes in Barangay Banilad of the said city. — (FREEMAN)
