CEBU, Philippines - The jail warden of Talisay City Jail yesterday said SPO1 Adonis Dumpit will be safe if he will be transferred to their jail.
Talisay City Jail Warden Renante Rubio told the court they can provide the safety of the controversial policeman if the latter is in their custody, explaining their detention cell has what they called “cottages,” which are divided according to the offense charge.
“The prisoners are designated according to the crime charge. Dumpit will be placed in cell number two if ever, because he committed murder,” Rubio said. He added at present, there are 40 inmates in cell number two.
Rubio said no visitor is allowed to enter inside the cottages.
However, Judge Ester Veloso asked Rubio if he can assure that Dumpit will not be given special treatment, to which Rubio said he will not.
“We will not give any special treatment to Dumpit, we will treat him like we treated our inmates there,” Rubio said.
But when asked by the judge if they can escort Dumpit from Talisay City jail to court, the jail warden said, “We cannot provide Dumpit an escort because as what jail warden of Cebu City Jail, Felixberto Jagorin, said, Dumpit is a ‘high-risk.’ I cannot take the risk, to risk my jail guards.”
Further, Rubio said they lack personnel and providing escort for Dumpit is the responsibility of Cebu City Jail and not theirs. He added their personnel is only enough to escort inmates coming from Talisay.
“Dumpit is not one of our inmates, so let the Cebu City Jail escort him,” he said.
However, Veloso questioned how the Cebu City Jail can provide security for Dumpit when in fact Jagorin testified last week in court that they cannot give it.
Lawyer Leslie Salva, counsel of Dumpit, said the transfer is not a big problem as they can ask the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to escort Dumpit from the jail.
The urgent motion to transfer Dumpit from Cebu City Jail to Talisay City Jail is set for resolution. (FREEMAN NEWS)
