CEBU, Philippines - A farmer was hacked to death by his own son in Sitio Kandulom, Barangay El Pardo, Boljoon town, last Sunday about 2:30 p.m.
Flabio Viñan Sr., 60, suffered multiple hack wounds in different parts of his body and a laceration in the head after being attacked by his son Saturnino Viñan, 21, who is now detained at the Boljoon police station stockade.
Flabio was heading home from their farm when the suspect, who was also a farmer, met him along the road and started yelling and pointing his fingers at him.
Flabio tried to confront his son, who was allegedly drunk at the time, but they eventually had an argument and the suspect pulled out his bolo and hacked his father repeatedly until he fell.
A brother of the suspect, Asterio, 19, witnessed the incident and immediately called another brother Bencio, 30, who then ran for help.
Asterio helped the victim while Bencio rushed to the house of their neighbor PO3 Reynaldo Rollon who called the police station and requested for assistance.
Responding police officers arrested the suspect who had fallen asleep by the time they arrived.
SPO2 Roderick Roma of Boljoon Police Station said that Saturnino held a grudge against his father due to the disciplinary punishment he received when he was young.
“Naa kunoy panahon nga tungod sa kasakit sa bunal, makalibang siya o dili ba kaha maka-ihi,” Roma told The FREEMAN.
Roma said that policemen took some time to arrive in the area since the residence of the suspect was around seven kilometers away from the barangay road.
“Dili masudlan ug sakyanan kinahanglan gyud lakton pwerte kalayo ilaha,” Roma said, added that they already requested personnel from Scene of the Crime Operatives to gather evidence for the filing of charges.
A parricide case is set to be filed against the suspect today at the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. (FREEMAN NEWS)
