CEBU, Philippines - While the opposition in Talisay City has only seven of the 22 barangay chiefs on its side, the administration is assured of victory in the coming election for the next Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president.
The powerful administration party, which currently has 10 members in the council including the presiding officer, yesterday welcomed the 15 barangay chiefs during a mass oath-taking ceremony yesterday administered by first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, Alayon Party president. Based on that number, it is believed that the next ABC chief will be from the administration.
The next Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president may also be from the same camp, as it reportedly also has the numbers.
Opposition Councilor Danny Caballero however said the rival party has the edge in the next month's election.
For his part, opposition Councilor Val Ylanan hopes for at least one more member.
Presently, the opposition has three members, including Councilor Romeo Villarante.
The opposition is backing Ylanan's son, Val Joseph, incoming SK chairman of barangay Linao. (FREEMAN)
