Cop mistaken for robber clobbered

A policeman assigned to the Police Regional Office-7 was brought to the hospital after being mistaken for a robber and attacked when he entered a family compound brandishing his service firearm in barangay Bungtod, Bogo City Friday night.

PO3 Allan Dosdos of Bogo police station said tricycle driver Renante Crodua, 31, came to their police station and reported he had just disabled and disarmed a drunk man who allegedly entered their family compound.

Crodua said the man, later identified as PO2 Randy Villegas, a resident of barangay Pulangbato, Bogo City, was brandishing his 9mm pistol while yelling at them. Crodua then grabbed a piece of wood and stuck the man in the head and nape to take him down.

When the man had fallen to the ground, Crodua disarmed him and bound him with rope. He then reported the incident to the police and surrendered to them the .9mm pistol, two magazines as well as 21 additional rounds he took from Villegas.

The policemen came and took Villegas to the Bogo District Hospital for treatment. It was only there they found out he was a policeman after hospital personnel turned over his PNP identification card together with his memorandum receipt and patrol orders issued by PRO-7.

Dosdos said when he asked Villegas why he was bringing his service firearm during the time of incident the policeman denied he had it with him.

Dosdos further said that the Croduas are set to file a case against Villegas today.  Flor Z. Perolina/BRP
