San Roque allegedly Talisay's dirtiest brgy

Barangay San Roque in Talisay City was branded as the dirtiest barangay in the city, according to the report conducted by the sanitation task force.

In its 2nd quarter evaluation report, the task force said San Roque barangay captain Cesar Abapo got only 3.0 percent regarding his management, leadership and initiatives in implementing of Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act.

In the over-all ratings, San Roque got only 2.77 percent on information dissemination, waste segregation and general cleanliness.

San Roque was followed by barangays Tangke (3.05 percent), Lagtang (3.06 percent), Manipis and Tabunok (3.86 percent) and Maghaway (4.0 percent).

Councilor Shirley Belleza, the task force chair who authored the sanitation ordinance, said that they observed that San Roque has no proper waste disposal system as some residents just dump their garbage elsewhere. During the barangay assembly the other day, Belleza lambasted some barangay captains in the city for their lack of concern in keeping their barangays clean. She said that "Hugaw nga Barangay" streamers would be put up in the city's dirty barangays.

"This is not to put them into shame but to challenge the barangay officials to put their acts together," Belleza said.

While San Roque was the dirtiest barangay, Poblacion was hailed as the cleanest barangay in the city.
