CEBU, Philippines - Ever wonder what triathlon means?
Triathlon is an athletic event that engages the athlete in three sporting events. Usually the events are swimming, cycling, and running, although others may include kayaking or skating to replace an event, as long as there are three events all in all.
Last August 5, Lapu Lapu City together with the cities of Mandaue, Cebu, and Talisay, played host to the Ironman 70.3 Philippines. A huge sporting event that had the athletes swim, bike, and run all the way from Lapu Lapu City down to Talisay City.
This event is truly a test for endurance, but who says only adults can become triathletes?
Last July 14, around 20 kids joined in the SuperTriKids category of the 2nd Mayor Monyeen Durano Triathlon Cup held at Alegre Beach Resort and Spa in Sogod, Cebu.
The kids swam, biked, and ran in and around the resort. The distances, though, was not as far as those of the adult category, still it was very challenging.
The winners were Mya Torralba for under 7 years old; Riggs Gerona and Eim Espina for 7 to 8 years old; Eduard Russel So and Meg Torralba for 9 to 10 years old; and Yuan Chiongbian and Kristin Rene Salimbangon for 11 to 12 years old.
