Invited to speak during the one-day postgraduate course entitled "A Clinical Approach to Pediatric Medical Imaging," are Dr. Marilyn Siegel, professor of radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri; and Dr. Elizabeth Ey, medical director of medical imaging of the Childrens Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.
Pediatric radiology is a sub-specialty of diagnostic radiology that encompasses imaging procedures for the diagnosis of diseases of infants and children, such as plain film radiography, contrast studies, ultrasonography, nuclear radiology, computerized tomography, digital radiography, angiography, interventional techniques, and magnetic resonance imaging.
Siegels principal areas of interest are pediatric radiology, cross-sectional imaging, adolescent diabetes and obesity and cardiovascular imaging in both children and adults.
She is the author or co-author of 154 original scientific publications, 87 titled and review articles, 12 books and 40 book chapters in scientific literature, with topics covering the entire spectrum of pediatric imaging.
During the postgraduate course, she is assigned to talk about "Imaging the Child with Acute Abdominal Pain," "Congenital Lung Abnormalities" and a special focus session on "Advances in Congenital Heart Disease Imaging."
Ey, on the other hand, specializes in diagnostic and pediatric radiology.
In addition to being the medical director of the Department of Radiology of the Childrens Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, Ey is also an assistant clinical professor at the Wright State University School of Medicine, also in Dayton, Ohio.
She has penned numerous presentations, book reviews, publications and scientific exhibits.
She is tasked the topics on "Role of Imaging in Genito-urinary Infections" and "Musculoskeletal Infections in Children."
A long list of impressive local speakers from the fields or radiology, pediatrics and pediatric sub-specialties are also scheduled to speak during the one-day postgraduate course.
Dr. Joven Cuanang, St. Lukes Medical Centers senior vice president for medical affairs and medical director, will give the welcome address, while Dr. Roberto Ramos, director of St. Lukes Institute of Radiology and overall co-chairman of the postgraduate course, will give the opening remarks.
Only limited slots are available for the one-day event. On-site registration is P1,200. A free CD of the postgraduate course will be given for pre-registrants.
