MANILA, Philippines — Kinumpirma ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na binuntutan ng navy ng China ang ginanap na joint sea and air activities sa pagitan ng Pilipinas, Australia, Japan, at New Zealand sa bahagi ng West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Nabatid na isinagawa ng People Libe­ration Army Southern Theater Command ang naval at air forces  routine reconnaissance sa paligid ng Bajo de Masinloc (Panatag, Scarborough Shoal) kasabay ng  Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA) ng Pilipinas, Australia, Japan, at  New Zealand sa  hilagang Luzon ng WPS.

Ayon kay AFP Spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, namonitor ng AFP ang mga Chinese vessels malapit sa vicinity ng exercise subalit ang multilateral exercise ay nagpatuloy na walang nangyaring paghahadlang.

“While there were observations of PLAN vessels tailing during the MMCA, no reports were received regarding the conduct of the alleged Chinese military exercise,” ani Padilla.

Pinadala ng AFP ang BRP Antonio Luna, BRP Emilio Jacinto, AW109 helicopter, at Philippine Air Force Search and Rescue (SAR) assets sa multilateral exercise habang Navy’s USS Howard sa US, HMAS Sydney sa Australia, JS Sazanami sa Japan at  HMNZS Aotearoa sa New Zealand.

Dagdag ni Padilla, mahalaga ang demonstrasyon ng international cooperation para sa paglalalakas ng ugnayan at kakayahan ng magkakaalyadong bansa.
