What to do with fake news

Una sa tanan, kining pangutana, what is propaganda, what is misinformation, and what is fake news? Tubag sa Google: “The terms ‘propaganda’, ‘misinformation’ and ‘fake news’ often overlap in meaning.

They are used to refer to a range of ways in which sharing information causes harm, intentionally or unintentionally – usually in relation to the promotion of a particular moral or political cause or point of view.”

Mao na, mag-overlap, magsapaw-sapaw ang maong mga pulong, apan susama ra ang mga kahulogan, nga in some instance, makahimo og kadaut, tinuyo o dili tinuyo, sagad pag-promote sa usa ka moral o political cause. 

Nga kon ikaw na-belong sa administrasyon, naturally, imo gayud i-promote ang inyong mga prinsipiyo, mga baruganan, ideolohiya, mga accomplishments ug mga laraw sa unahan; samtang sa pikas nga bahin, mao usab ang buhaton sa taga-opposition, pag-promote sa ilang kawsa.

In the process, however, both parties may be guilty of dis-information (false information shared intentionally to cause harm), ug mis-information (false information shared with no intention of causing harm}.

Giingon dinhi nga, “with the widespread availability of sophisticated forms of information and communication technology, the sharing of text, images, videos, or links online, allows information to go viral within hours.”

Kahibawo man ta nga ‘truth hurts.’ Ang angay buhaton, gawas sa naandan nga denial, atong ipasupot unsay tinuod, pagsukwahi sa atong gituhoan nga fake news. Ug ang katawhan na ang mo-discern which one is true, which one is fake. Ang Pinoy dili baya mga bogo.’

Diin man manukad kining atong pagpamakak ug pagkabakakon? Ingon sila gikan kuno sa atong mga ginikanan, nga most probably, nasunod usab gikan sa ilang mga ginikanan.

Anyway, modangop kita sa Bibliya, diin gikutlo sa Google kining mosunod: “The Bible condemns lying as a sin that displeases God. It says that liars will be punished and that truth-telling is a command from God.

Ug kining mga verses:"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor; You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another; Liars will be among those judged in the end;

"You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man;  “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape,” ug sa John 8:44, Jesus calls ‘Satan the father of lies.’

Actually, ato na kining nahisgutan sa una natong mga lindog, apan, for emphasis and for impact, ato kining gisubli dinhi tungod sa relevance sa atong topic karon, ang fake news.

Unsa may sulti ni Hesus mismo, about liars? “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

There you are, kon mahimo likayan nato ang pagsabwag sa mga fake news.
